Could I Have Scabies?
Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite. Scabies is contagious and can spread quickly, so if your brother was diagnosed with it and you are now noticing red bumps on you, it is very possible that you have it as well.
It is important that you tell a parent/guardian about the bumps right away so an appointment can be scheduled with your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor will examine the area so a proper diagnosis can be made. Then your doctor will recommend a course of treatment. Treatment for scabies generally involves various creams and lotions that your doctor will prescribe for you.
If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
